Retainers
Instructions for Retainer Wear
- When your braces come off you will need to wear your retainers full time (24hrs/day) for 3 days and nights.
- WHY? Your teeth are a little loose when you first get your braces off, so this means they can easily shift and get crooked of space apart, depending on what your problem was before you got them. This first 3 days of full time wear helps them settle into their new position.
- It is ok to take them out when you eat, however, PUT THEM IN YOUR RETAINER CASE! IF YOU LAY THEM DOWN OR WRAP THEM IN A NAPKIN, THEY WILL PROBABLY GET LOST OR THROWN AWAY. We could write a book entitled “HOW I LOST MY RETAINER”. Please take our advice.
- Pets love to chew on them!
- After 3 days, you only need to wear them when you sleep. EVERY NIGHT!
- If you can not wear your retainer FOR ANY REASON, call our office.
Retainer Care
In the morning, remove your retainers, brush them inside and out with soap and cool water. Do not use hot water, they will warp! Do not use toothpaste to brush them. This causes the retainers to get dull, dry and brittle and they will crack easily.
You need to purchase a denture cleanser with the little tub included and after you clean them with soap and water, soak them in the denture cleanser according to the directions. (use cool water). It is ok to leave them in this liquic during the day or remove them and place in your retainer case. Why??? This prevents odor and germs.
ALWAYS , ALWAYS , ALWAYS, bring your retainers with you to every appointment from now on! WHY? We need to help you maintain them properly and we want to see YOU , YOUR TEETH AND YOUR RETAINERS !
