Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment
As your mouth adjusts to your new braces it is normal to feel soreness during the first few days. Try to eat soft foods and you may want to take an over the counter pain relief such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen until the tenderness subsides. Discomfort will vary from patient to patient, however most soreness should be gone within a few days.
Emergencies
If you have an emergency with your braces, please call the office before you come in. This will allow us to assess the problem and determine the appropriate amount of time needed for your visit.
- If a wire is irritating your mouth, cover it with wax or use a pencil eraser or cotton swab to move the wire from the irritated area.
- A broken arch wire or one that is irritating the gum or cheek tissue needs to be seen as soon as possible for replacement or adjustment.
- If you loose or break your retainer, please call our office immediately. Your teeth may shift if you do not wear your retainer.
